Private and personalized piano lessons in Barrhaven, just south of the city of Ottawa in Nepean!
Here at Barrhaven Piano Lessons, I attempt to create a unique opportunity for students to delve into the world of music with dedicated instruction tailored to their individual needs and goals. Whether you’re a beginner who is eager to explore the fundamentals of piano playing or an intermediate student seeking to refine your technique and expand your repertoire, my aim as a teacher is to provide comprehensive guidance and support. Students will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of piano through a focus on classical and jazz, working to develop a broad understanding of music theory and proper playing techniques.
Lessons for early beginners and younger students will include excerpts from the Piano Adventures series of lesson books, serving as an introductory guide toward simple piano pieces and a foundation in the basics of playing. We will typically follow with an introduction to classical and jazz music, focusing on improvement in technique and the basics of musical theory. This will provide a well-rounded musical education, offering students the opportunity to explore different styles and genres, as well as develop their own musical preferences. Students will gradually build a repertoire that encompasses various musical periods and styles, guiding them towards becoming versatile and accomplished pianists. Guidance and practice in improvisational technique will also reinforce familiarity with musical theory and provide a fun, creative experience in the lessons.
Intermediate or advanced students will follow lesson plans focused on their individual goals, whether it be expansion of their repertoire or working towards new levels in the Certificate Program with the Royal Conservatory of Music.
Lessons are held in a cozy studio space on my personal upright piano, with comfortable seating nearby for parents or guardians who wish to observe. The piano is regularly tuned and maintained in a state suitable for regular usage by students alongside my own daily practice habits.
